Introducing Ian

Hi readers,

Katie (and others) has done a lot of great work setting up this site and she has asked me to contribute. It looks like a pretty good cause to me, so here I am.

My name is Ian Bushfield, I’m currently a masters student in physics at Simon Fraser University and live in beautiful Vancouver, BC. I’m the secretary for the BC Humanist Association and CFI Vancouver, I’m also currently the treasurer for the SFU Skeptics and the VP-External for FAC. I maintain my personal blog at ian.bushfield.ca and talk about religion/politics/science at Terahertz.

I did my undergrad in Engineering Physics at the University of Alberta where I helped found the UofA Atheists and Agnostics. My greatest accomplishment there was successfully petitioning to get a line in the convocation charge changed from commanding us to use our degrees for “the glory of God and honour of your country,” to

…for the uplifting of the whole people; to inspire the human spirit; for all who believe, to serve your God; and to pursue more steadfastly whatsoever things are true.

At this blog I’ll probably write about the intersections of politics and religion (I’m also involved in the preliminary stages of starting a secular political party for the next Vancouver election), atheist/religious issues in Alberta and BC, and anything else that suits my fancy.

I probably won’t cross-post much (if at all) between here and my other blogs, but hopefully I say something meaningful.

Cheers,

Ian
