From an email:
As of November 1, 2011 CFI Canada’s and CFI Ontario’s shared headquarters in Toronto will no longer be at 216 Beverley Street. We’ve found a new home offering a more traditional office space and meeting rooms at 2 College Street.
Many of you may already know this building; it’s a popular landmark and protected heritage site downtown, practically on top of College TTC subway station with a large parking lot conveniently located behind. Aside from its many practical pluses for CFI Canada, it’s easy and fun to go to!
This is a good move. Canada’s first, and currently only, permanent atheist community centre can save money with office space and small meeting rooms as it doesn’t need the event space like it has now. Large rooms can easily be rented nearby when required.
The current landlords are sketchy and the building is falling apart and invested with rats (Toronto rats are about the size of a small dog). Moving to a better, smaller, and hopefully cleaner location at a busy intersection next to a subway is more convenient and offers a much higher profile.
They’ll no longer be next to a university but I think that was only an advantage a few years ago when CFI was run by students who rushed to meetings and events after class. Now that the majority of guests and volunteers are drawn from the general public, a more central and visible location is more appropriate.
I’m looking forward to sharing a building with Starbucks. CFI’s current location forces me to walk 30 seconds down the street.
More details to come.
