Having watched the Dawkins v Pell debate, and learned about Lawrence Krauss’s book A Universe from Nothing, I was all set to jump into another physics book. But then I read Massimo’s recent post on Rationally Speaking and suddenly I wasn’t so sure.
Sure, by now I’m used to scientists who don’t think much of philosophy, but it does annoy me somewhat. Not because I have any vested interest, I’m as much a science fan as a philosophy fan, but it bothers me because I find that scientists who take philosophy seriously, tend to make better, more compelling arguments. And the one’s who don’t, well, in my opinion anyway, they tend to come off as examples of the pejorative scientism.
I think I’m still going to read Krauss’s book anyway, I need my fix, but I’m less enthused. Just to keep positive though, here is something tantalizing from Shermer on that same topic.
Update: Well, now this is interesting.
