Public Money Funds Homophobic “University” in Moncton

Gay rights activists in Moncton, New Brunswick are fighting to have public funding pulled from Crandall University (formerly Atlantic Baptist University) because it has a blatantly homophobic stance.

Straight from their Statement of Moral Standards Crandall University demands all students and staff …

… to be sexually pure, refraining from such activities as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, and the use of pornographic materials; (Exodus 20:14; I Corinthians 6:18-20; Ephesians 5:3)

It seems that since 1996 Crandall University has received over $24 million in public money and in as recently as 2010 Moncton City Council actually voted to increase the rate of Crandall’s funding and last month the council voted to make this so-called university eligible for more funding.

Public money cannot be used to promote hate, ignorance, and discrimination.

What I love best here is that the Canadian Association of University Teachers does not even recognize Crandall as a university! Teachers do not recognize it as a proper school and yet the government gives it money, how can this be? This all sounds like a story that would out of Saudi Arabia but no it’s a homegrown Canadian issue.

Let’s send some emails out and let Moncton City Council know that this is not acceptable.
