As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was at the Pussy Riot demonstration in Toronto. There were lots of people there supporting the cause, some even came dressed up. If you watch the PR video you’ll see how the members of the band dress, with colourful knitted balaclavas. In Toronto, the police stood by, looking bored… peaceful protest, no problems.
I love my country.
In Russia, they were arrested for hooliganism, for daring to speak out against church and state, but in France some of their supporters, dressed up in a similar fashion, are now being harassed by police, oh the irony, for violating the law against face-coverings. The law, originally designed to harassprotect muslim women from… themselves… has now been used against supporters of a feminist punk band promoting freedom of expression. Bunch of hooligans!.
If I made this stuff up… it couldn’t be more surreal.
