Tim Kehler says,

I find it difficult to believe that Christians “don’t concern themselves with material possessions.” Can you support this statement.

When you say you, “didn’t realize [you] had a ‘need of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,’” you are misunderstanding the driving force behind Christians, and these types of campaigns.

What you forget, or may not know, is Christians are taught to believe that every human being has a deep rooted desire to have a relationship with Jesus. That’s why you can’t debate this topic (along with many others) with them.

When you say, “I don’t feel a need for a relationship with Jesus,.” They’ll say (and believe) that it is only because Satan has deceived you. They will then point out all the ways you are trying to satisfy the need for a relationship with Jesus in material ways. Ie: premarital sex, homosexual sex, materialism, acadaemia, drugs, alcohol, etc, etc, etc. Then, when you’ve had the epiphany that, “yes! I do have a deep seeded desire to entertain myself and satisfy urges! Obviously that’s because I want a personal relationship with Jesus! Please make me feel guilty and accept 10% of my (gross) income!”

This is why, all those people that have personal relationships with Jesus are so happy, and don’t concern themselves with material possessions.

The Halifax/Dartmouth transit refused the Atheist Bus Campaign posters in February, 2009. I may be misremembering, but I thought the transit made the decision, at the time, to stop accepting any religious advertising( http://atheistbus.ca/ ) It seems that now that the controversy has died down, Halifax/Dartmouth transit is accepting religious ads.
