I'm trying to avoid throwing any real barbs their way, there has been too much of that already. It saddens me though that people who are talking about social justice spend so much time on Rebecca Watson... and so little time on Alexander An.

Maybe that is a bit unfair, but for me, this is the problem with letting yourself get distracted by trolls.

As to Dawkins, I have met lots of atheists with 'Dawkins stories' like that. He was never that pivotal for me, but I got involved before he hit the big time. I'm glad he is around, he has had a huge influence, mostly positive. :)

The main point about science education is that it is a broader, and in my opinion, more important issue. I would rather deal with a theist with a good grounding in science than a flakey atheist. Science education is essential to our survival as a society. Atheism.... well that would be nice too.

There's an expression one often hears at Alcoholic's Anonymous meetings: "All you need to start your own group is a resentment and a coffee pot."

I think it sums up the impetus behind A+. It's 'leadership' is awash in ego and because of that will only have marginal success. If they could ever stop talking about themselves they MIGHT do some good.

Regarding the fear that Dawkins mucks up science education, I must point out that it was his work in popularizing atheism that sparked my interest in science.
