Truth is, she probably wouldn’t have cut it as a girl in Iran. In fact, depending on where she lived she would have probably been pulled to the edge of town and stone for her mistakes.

Truth is we are spoiled due to geographic location. Of course they can be better, but this girl did have resources. She could have talked to her parents. I know I did when I went through my “stupid female teenager on the internet” stage. It’s not nice, but we live in a world that largely expects you to help yourself because there aren’t many that will do it for you.

Like I’ve said, I’m sad she died, but this was Amanda Todd’s downfall. I had high school experiences that closely mirrored hers yet here I still am. When he says she’s of no great concern, he speaking of those obnoxious people holding her up as a martyr for superficial reasons. What makes it even more obnoxious is that quite a few of these people are bullies themselves. Those people don’t really care about her or bullies, they’re merely looking for the feel good cause of the week that requires no effort from them.

You’re very right that people love the attention that comes from posting facebook pictures and threads about people like Amanda Todd, so they can act holier than thou and can make themselves believe that they would have done something if they had known her. Unfortunately of course they probably wouldn’t have.

My point is that stories like Amanda Todd’s can be learned from. Parents, teachers, everyone, should use Amanda as an example of what hate can cause.

So I don’t much care to listen to anything he has to say, unless it is a huge, profuse, unqualified, and long-winded apology. Not a justification, not an explanation of how the poor little tumblr-guy is just misunderstood. Either he is a douche, or he made a horrible mistake.
And just because I agree there were other people who died that day, which is trivial and obvious, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t criticize him for a complete lack of empathy, compassion and common courtesy.
An apology, I would make time for, but other than that, I see no reason to waste any time listening to him. I can think of an endless list of better things to do with my time. I’d never even heard of him before this mess. So, I won’t be missing him.
