According to the Toronto Star,
The pope’s latest denunciation of gay marriage came in a Christmas address to Vatican officials in which he blended religion, philosophy, anthropology and sociology to illustrate the position of the Roman Catholic Church.
The pope is a whited sepulchre, cloaking himself in garments of learning, pretending to be wise instead of evil. His pronouncements are cliches sprinkled with pseudo-scientific gibberish.
The family, which is defined by the pope as “father, mother, child,” needs to be protected because it is
“the authentic setting in which to hand on the blueprint of human existence.”
According to the pope, gay marriage threatens his idea of family because it is
“a false understanding of freedom” and a repudiation of life-long commitment in heterosexual marriage.
What does the pope know about family? Obviously, he knows very little if he thinks heterosexual marriage is a life-long commitment. Catholic Marriage Tribunals issue numerous Declarations of Nullity every year, for a fee. Moreover, as Franco Grillini, a leader of Italy’s gay community, points out,
Where gay marriage has been approved, there has been no consequence on heterosexual marriage.
Even more bizarre, the pope agrees with the findings of a study by Gilles Bernheim, France’s chief rabbi, that
children raised by gay couples would be more “objects” than individuals.
Wrong, it is the Catholic Church that treats children as objects.
Consistent with the idea that “desperate times call for desperate measures,” under the pope’s direction,
In some countries, the Catholic Church has already joined forces with Jews, Muslims and members of other religions to oppose the legalization of gay marriage, in some cases presenting arguments based on legal, social and anthropological analyses rather than religious teachings.
Pope Benedict, the 85-year-old bigot, joins forces with strange bedfellows to keep and maintain his power. However, no blend of religion, philosophy, anthropology and sociology will make him any less bigoted or disgusting, nor will it make him right about gay marriage.
