Misplaced Confidence in Their Righteousness

by | October 15, 2015

In the Gospel of Matthew in the King James version of that oversold, under-read piece of pulp fiction, the Christian Bible, Jesus says to Peter,

Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Jesus is right, Peter does just that: he distances himself from Jesus and from other followers of Jesus, and today, the tradition of Christians distancing themselves from other Christians continues.

Yesterday, after the news that

Six people have been arrested in the beatings of Lucas and his 17-year-old brother, Christopher, who were pummeled with fists and kicked at the Word of Life [Christian] church in New Hartford during what police describe as a spiritual counselling session to urge them to confess sins and seek forgiveness,

Word of Life Fellowship issued a press release to say

Recently members of a Word of Life Church in Chadwicks, New York were indicted on manslaughter charges.

To help avoid confusion, we wish to clarify that Word of Life Fellowship in Schroon Lake, New York does not have any connection with this church.

Furthermore, Word of Life Fellowship does not agree with the actions taken by the members of the church in Chadwicks, New York. The incident that took place at this church is saddening and is not consistent with Biblical teaching.

On the same day, Rev. Abraham L. Esper, a representative of the world’s biggest, most powerful group of Jesus-freaks, the Roman Catholic Church,

rejected the assertion that the Word of Life was a real church.

“This is not of God,” he said of the activities next door. “If this was of God, there would be growth. Not destruction.”

The Word of Life Fellowship, which assures the gullible,

When you ask Jesus to be your Savior . . . Never do you have to worry about punishment, never do you need to worry about the future,

and the Catholic Church, which promises something similar but more one-true-church-like, are like the Pharisee. They claim to be “not like other people,” and are especially not like the people from Word of Life church in New Hartford.

The Word of Life Fellowship and Abraham L. Esper have used the murder of 19-year-old Lucas Leonard and the vicious beating of his 17-year-old brother, Christopher, as an opportunity to distinguish themselves from sinners and to exalt themselves! Their behaviour is not just unacceptable, it is reprehensible!
